Keynote speakers

Invited speakers from industry will give keynote presentations on how process safety is being implemented in their organisations. Confirmed so far:

Malcolm Staves Malcolm Staves, Group Health & Safety Director, L'Oreal, France

“Case Study: the L’Oréal Safety Culture Journey and Next Steps”

Previously a site engineering technologist and a plant manager, Malcolm has worked in corporate environment, health & safety for companies including Pechiney, Alcan and Bureau Veritas.

He joined L’Oréal in 2008, and is responsible for the development of the group's health & safety and fire prevention strategies, objectives and action plans. Since his arrival at L’Oréal, Malcolm has developed strategies for the globalisation of health & safety with a focus on risk management, visible leadership and safety culture. The next challenges are related to spreading the safety culture beyond the gates of L’Oréal.

Until recently Malcolm was chairman of the Conference Board European Health & Safety Council which has around 45 members and has also been a member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development's (WBCSD) working group on skills & employment. He has co-authored several articles on health and safety and is a frequent speaker at the European Centre for Executive Development's (CEDEP)  Leadership & Safety Culture training programme.

An IChemE Fellow, Malcolm graduated from Loughborough University with a degree in Chemical Engineering and has an MSC in Integrated Environmental Management from Bath University.
